This isn't the 1950s lifted wholesale. This year's version leans on mixed materials and bold colour pairings to give an old element a thoroughly modern face.
The palette has moved beyond black and white
The 2026 check is no longer limited to traditional black and white. Designers are pairing forest green with cream, deep red with sand, and some are putting brushed metal straight up against natural timber. The geometry is strongly directional, which makes it useful for zoning an open-plan space, and it reads with far more movement than a plain floor.
