Referencing the Japanese sport of sumo, the Sumo series celebrates the beauty of the torso; inspired by Japan's traditional competitive sport of sumo wrestling, it features a pointed-foot base and a massive vase body.
All the vases have different mouth designs, from a traditional narrow vase opening to double openings and deep-carved pointed mouths.
This series focuses on the contrast between familiar vase shapes and the addition of more artistic, abstract ideas and details, refreshing our view of the vase form. With greater attention to formal detail and abstract, art-piece vessels, it goes beyond our previous imagination of what a vase can be.
The interior has a waterproof coating and can hold fresh flowers; the exterior's hand-applied glaze gives the vase a distinctive matte texture, with each piece varying slightly in color.
