Born in 1978, this classic work is Ingo Maurer's ultimate exploration of the “washi paper” material. The Knitterling pendant lamp takes seemingly fragile Japanese washi paper and hand-shapes it into one-of-a-kind, free-spirited creases, breaking the orderly boundaries of traditional lighting.

The washi fibers not only give the lamp a sculptural three-dimensionality, they also act as a perfect light-and-shadow filter. When lit, the warm light diffuses softly through the layered folds, creating a misty, vivid interior atmosphere that turns lighting from mere function into a serene dialogue between material and emotion.
