Lampampe is another work in which Ingo Maurer pushes the art of "paper" to its limits. Unlike the airy lightness of Knitterling or Floatation, Lampampe expresses a rustic power reminiscent of primitive sculpture. Its shade and stem are entirely wrapped by hand in Japanese washi paper, with gently curved, asymmetrical lines — looking at once like a lamp melting away and like a quietly glowing totem.
