2025 belonged to brass and warm metals. What has surfaced on Threads and Instagram in 2026 is "Unexpected Chrome", and in the past 10 days conversation about how to mix silver with gold has grown 180%. What is coming back is a cooler, more mineral kind of luxury.
The point is not to replace brass. The current approach puts the coolness of stainless steel and the warmth of brass into the same frame, so the materials read with a certain depth of time.
Trend one: Unexpected Chrome, a quiet mineral quality
Chrome and stainless steel have moved out of the kitchen and bathroom. Cool in tone and highly reflective, they bring the temperature of a room down. Add a stainless steel side table, or a chrome table lamp, to a living room full of wood and textiles, and the sharpness arrives immediately. Trend two: Mixed Metals, don't buy the matching set
Running one metal finish through the entire home is the least advisable move of 2026; it looks like a show flat. Mixing metals of different tones, on the other hand, shows the owner's taste. As a ratio, let one metal dominate at around 70% and use the other as an accent at around 30% — large brass light fittings, say, with stainless steel handles or hooks in the details.
