A bénitier is the stoup that holds holy water beside a church door. Sempé borrows the form for domestic use: 14.2 cm across and 4.2 cm deep — deeper than Balcon, so it actually contains things. Coins, earrings, the ring you take off at the door. In ceramic or solid wood. Made in France / Italy.
